Shannon Drury is a writer, at-home parent, and community activist who has been blogging about parenthood and politics since 2006.

In June 2011, she placed third in the Top 25 Political Mom Blogs contest sponsored by Circle of Moms.

In October 2010, she was named one of the 30 Political Mom Bloggers Who Will Change Your Vote by The Stir by CafeMom.com.

For combining parenting with grassroots activism, she was given a 2006 Changemaker Award by the Minnesota Women’s Press.  One column written for that paper, “Imagine a Pro-Vagina World,” on gender politics in the presidential race, was chosen one of the Top Ten Stories of 2008 by the online news site Twin Cities Daily Planet.

She also contributes regularly to Minnesota Public Radio News and Elevate Difference (formerly Feminist Review).  Additional work has appeared the Minneapolis Star Tribune, HipMama, Skirt!, Literary Mama, Femomist.com, and AlterNet.

In 2011, she was elected to her fifth term as President of the Minnesota chapter of the National Organization for Women. She also serves on the Mothers and Caregivers’ Rights Committee of the nationwide organization. In 2009, she was named Minnesota NOW's Feminist of the Year.

In 2008, she served on the Women for Franken Advisory Committee, advising now-Senator Al Franken on feminist policy issues at the federal level.

Shannon Drury earned a B.A. in English and Media Studies from Carleton College. She resides in south Minneapolis with her husband and their two children.
